The food, though.

It's been a while since I've visited France. What I learned while living here before is that the food is superior to what we get in the US. And I'm not talking just about the French specific items you might be thinking of (but that too). The most normal of things - canned corn, tuna fish, crackers, milk, eggs, even boxed cereal tastes better. It tastes less processed, less chemcial-ly. It’s delicious.

When we arrived we were hungry and tired. After a few minutes of bickering with the kids because of fatigue, I made them get in the car and go to the grocery store with me to get some food for dinner and the next morning. And we all really enjoyed it, actually! All of the delicious products in the store were talking to me and it all came rushing back that we’re going to be eating GOOD these next few weeks. As I passed by the THREE cheese aisles, I pointed out to Hayden that they have like 8 types of brie and for him to pick one out that he wants to try (he loves brie). As I will try not to gain 100 pounds while living here for a month, I beelined to the fruits, veggies, and meat, begrudgingly walking by the breads, cheese, charcuterie, pâté, tapenade, and wine… ALL of my favorite things. Go me.

Anyway, there will be WAY more food posts to come. I can’t wait to keep cooking while we’re here and also try some restaurants that I’ve never tried before!

Below is what I made myself for dinner the first night, in lieu of baguette with camembert and rosé wine. Tapping into that will power is going to be tough. But it was delicious!

Pictured: Salad with cooked lentils and hazlenut oil salad dressing, roasted carrots & courgette (zucchini for the US peeps), and spiced roasted salmon.

That does look delicious but you have to give in and eat your favorites once and a while. Enjoy yourselves on a wonderful vacation.
